In the quarter final Niamh had an impressive 12-4 win over her Turkish opponent to put her into the semi-final against the Russian favorite for the title. After a brave challenge in the semi against the more experienced Russian, Niamh had to settle for the bronze medal. County League

  1. All boxer details shall be sent Stephen Molloy, Raha, Oughterard or by email to molloyconst@gmail.com before Friday 21st September. All weights / ages should be correct as boxers will be weighed and cards checked before they enter the ring for the first time. Boxers may compete in the first rounds of league with completed medicals but must have record books for decision contests in league finals.
  2. This year there will be a €5 entry fee per boxer to help cover the cost of the trophies and medical cover.
  3. Any coach is free to contact Stephen or Ferdy to suggest a good match. All suggestions are welcome.
  4. Non-decision contests will be held over 4 - 6 tournaments depending on numbers.
  5. All boxers should wear club colours.
  6. Matches will be made on age, weight and experience. Boxers may also be matched one year up or down or within a few kilos. The aim is that everybody will box 2 or 3 non decision contests. This was not possible last year at some very light weights. The aim is to get three rounds boxing in the non-decision contests, a stronger boxer will have to ease up if asked.
  7. All the non – decision contests will be judged on clicker by one judge to help evaluate the standard of each boxer. The decision will not be made known but will be used to help get good matches for the league finals.
  8. The finals will be held over two days and will be decision contests. Both finalists will receive a trophy. A few boxers may have to box on the two days of the finals if there are not suitable matches.
  9. The support of all the clubs taking part is vital for this to work. Last year a few clubs did not turn up for contests or did not let us know that some of their boxers were not available. If it happens this year the offending club will be barred from the league immediately. It is very unfair for boxers to travel long distances and not have a contest.
  10. Like last year, all contests will be posted on the Galway Co. Board web site www.galwayboxing.com by the Wednesday of each week and each club will receive texts and emails also. There is no excuse for not knowing who is boxing each week.

Co. Board Meeting

The first Co Board meeting of the new season took place on Tuesday 4th September in Westside gym with eleven clubs being represented.
